Ventnor is located on the South of the Isle of Wight. The town grew in Victorian Britain due to its unique microclimate as a place for holiday and health benefits. This traditional seaside resort is often described as the ‘English Mediterranean’ and ‘Mayfair by the Sea’.

The town is built on the side of a steep hill leading down to the seafront and beach. Ventnor looks out to the English Channel and above the town is St Boniface Down, the highest point on the Isle of Wight.

Live stream of the Central Line Epping Station on the London Undergound, hosted by the Epping Signal Cabin Museum and home to Locomotive L11.

The dedicated team of volunteers have restored the signal cabin to original condition, which features a fully working signal frame powered by a track simulator. The museum is also home to Locomotive L11, which is an ex Acton shunter constructed from 2 1923 vintage Standard Stock driving motor cars.

The Needles is iconic for its three stacks of chalk rock that rise to about 30m from the Solent with the Needles lighthouse at the foremost western end. The landmark takes its names for a now-gone fourth needle-shaped rock called Lot’s Wife, which collapsed in 1764 due to a particularly bad storm. Storms are a regular feature of the area with the Needles often recording the highest wind speeds during the storm season.

The Needles lighthouse was built in 1859 and was maned up until its automation in 1994. On the cliff above the lighthouse stands both the new and old Needles Battery which are set as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the area is managed by the National Trust. The National Coastwatch Institution’s Needles Station is also located high above the Needles.
